Meridian - Eagle Road between East Copper Point Drive and Easy Jet Drive in Meridian was closed to traffic late this afternoon to allow crews to remove a temporary bridge structure and keep the Ridenbaugh Canal from flooding nearby homes and businesses. Removing the temporary bridge structure allowed water to flow freely through the canal after recent rain and melting from warmer weather overwhelmed the pipe system running underneath the temporary bridge.
A project to widen Eagle Road from Victory Road to the Ridenbaugh Canal has been underway since May 2010. To keep the road open to traffic while the canal bridge structure is widened, a temporary structure was built.
Without the bridge structure in place, Eagle Road, between East Copper Point Drive and Easy Jet Drive remains closed and a detour is in place. More should be known tomorrow about how long this section of road will remain closed while another temporary structure is constructed or other accommodations are made.
The Eagle Road, Victory Road to Ridenbaugh Canal project is anticipated to be complete in May 2011. For more information on this and all ACHD projects, visit
