Meridian- After five months of work at the McMillan Road and Locust Grove Road intersection, the project is complete and the intersection was opened to traffic around 10:00 a.m., two months ahead of schedule.
Temporary road closures during construction were among the reasons the project progressed quickly and finished early. “Crews were able to complete portions of the intersection project and build the two irrigation crossings without traffic on the roadways, which helped to move the project along faster,” said Justin Bledsoe, ACHD Construction Supervisor.
The widened intersection features a traffic signal, through lanes, designated right and left turn lanes at each approach, bike lanes and sidewalk or pathway which ties into existing sidewalk in the area.
While the intersection is now fully open to traffic, some additional finishing work will occur within the project area in the weeks to come.
Construction on the intersection improvement project totaled $2.2 million.
