Boise- Ada County Highway District crews have begun clearing an area on the west side of 31st Street between Regan Avenue and Hester Street in preparation for construction of the 30th Street Extension— a project that could begin as early as fall 2012. The area was once the site of a gravel pit and is the location for a segment of the four-lane roadway that will connect Fairview Avenue and State Street.
Excavation work gets underway at former gravel pit site in advance of the 30th Street Extension project
The existing material at the former gravel site includes large sized rocks and miscellaneous debris unsuitable as a base for the new road. Crews will dig approximately six feet deep to remove the unsuitable material and will replace it with dirt and fill that will provide a stable base for the roadway. Performing the work ahead of construction will allow for the ground to be monitored for settling throughout the next year before the start of construction.
The excavation work is anticipated to take up to one month to complete. Crews will work weekdays, generally between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Residents near the work site can expect large trucks and equipment in the area and general construction noise. Crews will not be working in or on the road itself. For more information on the 30th Street Extension, visit www.achdidaho.org.
