Boise- The $3.8 million project to widen Franklin Road between Five Mile Road and Touchmark Way is now complete and the road is fully open to traffic.
The nearly one-year-long project improved Franklin Road to five lanes and added curb, gutter and seven-foot-wide sidewalks from Touchmark Way, eastward to Five Mile Road.
The expanded Franklin Road will improve traffic flow and reduce congestion for the more than 16,000 motorists using the stretch of Franklin. In turn, reduced congestion and wider sidewalks will improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.
"This project improves a vital east-west corridor that connects Boise and Meridian. With its completion, the road project makes Franklin Road a five-lane roadway between Linder and Cole," said Rebecca Arnold, ACHD Commission President. Last year, the Franklin and Cloverdale intersection was widened in preparation for the road improvement project.
In addition, improvements at the nearby Franklin and Maple Grove intersection were recently completed. The project added turn lanes to each approach of the intersection to move traffic more efficiently.
While traffic will remain open within the Franklin, Five Mile to Touchmark project area, motorists may notice crews performing finish work throughout the next couple of weeks, with possible impacts to the center turn lane.
The road project was funded by federal dollars.
