Ironman event in Boise to bring impacts to local and state roads this Saturday

Boise- Swim, bike, run – it’s the annual competitive Ironman 70.3 triathlon event that brings more than 1,500 athletes to the Boise area to compete, and draws thousands of spectators to cheer. The three events will take place in downtown, east and southeast Boise, and Kuna this Saturday (June 8). Traffic delays, road closures and detours should be expected along multiple Ada County Highway District (ACHD) and Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) roads that will serve as the biking and running courses.

Local law enforcement officers and event volunteers will be positioned along the race routes to direct traffic and help keep competitors and motorists safe. In several areas, police will assist motorists, and residents who live along the course with accessing or leaving their homes. Those driving along the bike course may, at times, drive alongside cyclists and are asked to use caution.

Competitors will start with the swim portion of the race at Lucky Peak’s Barclay Bay, followed by biking 56 miles through east and southeast Boise, and Kuna, to Julia Davis Park. Participants will then run 13.1 miles, most of which is along the Greenbelt, to the finish line in downtown Boise on 8th Street. For full race course maps and for more information on Ironman 70.3, visit www.ironmanboise.com.

On Saturday, ACHD will have staff stationed in its Traffic Management Center to monitor traffic conditions in the east/southeast Boise and downtown areas and adjust signal timing as needed to keep traffic moving as efficiently as possible.

Due to the size and complexity of the Ironman event, some roads will be impacted for multiple days.
