Boise – A contractor working for the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will apply a microseal treatment to the bike lanes on Hill Road between Bogus Basin Road and the 36th Street/Hill Road/Catalpa Drive roundabout. The bike lanes will be closed starting the morning of August 8, and will be reopened by the evening of August 10 to allow crews to apply the treatment. Vehicle travel lanes will remain open; however, access to Hill Road from all of the side streets between 36th Street and Harrison Boulevard will be delayed 1-1 ½ hours during this process to allow the sealant to cure. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. Flaggers will be present, and there will be intermittent delays for traffic. Message boards are in place advertising the bike lane closure.
Bike lanes on Hill Road to close for microseal treatment
The microseal is an alternative to ACHD’s regular chip seal, and involves applying a mix of oil and a finer gravel to the road to help extend the life of the roadway. The end result should provide bicyclists a smoother ride than what they would experience after a typical chip seal treatment.
The microseal is a pilot project that ACHD is trying to help accommodate the local bicycling community, while still providing crucial roadway maintenance.
