ACHD to hold community open house for the State Street and Pierce Park Intersection Project

Boise – The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will hold a community open house tomorrow (Wednesday, February 15) to get public feedback on the upcoming State Street/Pierce Park Intersection Project. The open house will be held at the Castle Hills Church of the Nazarene from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

ACHD would like to know how people who live in and travel through this area think the intersection is working, and how they think it might be improved. Input gathered from this event will be used to help prepare design alternatives for the project.

Evaluation of this intersection includes how Pierce Park Lane might be realigned with State Street at the intersection; how to increase bicycle and pedestrian connectivity; the expansion of the intersection to accommodate future traffic volumes; and the reconstruction of this portion of State Street to conform with the State Street Transit and Traffic Operations Plan (TTOP), which supports transit expansion in the future.

State Street is envisioned as a transit corridor with increased regional, express and local bus service, and high occupancy vehicle lanes (HOV). HOV lanes are typically dedicated for buses, carpools, vanpools, motorcycles, right-turning vehicles, and emergency vehicles.

If approved, the design of the recommended alternative would begin in 2018, with right of way acquisition following in 2019, and construction in 2021.

Materials from the open house and the survey will be available online at bit.ly/StatePiercePark by the close of business on Thursday, February 16. Comments are due by March 1, 2017.
