Tomorrow, August 30th, the Idaho Military Department will coordinate a ceremony for Gov. Cecil Andrus. He will be brought from The Cathedral of the Rockies to lie in state at the Capitol from the 30th & 31st.
Starting at 9 a.m., the following streets will be closed for this ceremony. The closures will end at approximately 2 p.m. Also, the Army National Guard is providing two (2) pack howitzers for this event to fire a 19 gun salute, so expect that it will be very noisy in and around the Capitol starting at noon.
Boise Police Department will oversee the road closures for this event. Barricades are already in place at the corners for easy access by BPD. Please expect heavy foot traffic in and around the Capitol Building for the next two (2) days while Gov. Andrus rests at the Capitol.
There is a possibility of a short (15 minute) closure of Jefferson and Capitol north of Bannock on the 31st to move the governor from the Capitol Building to the funeral home. This possible closure would be around noon.
On Friday the 1st of September, the governor will be laid to rest at Pioneer Cemetery at the intersection of Warm Springs Avenue/Avenue C. This will be a private ceremony. All construction work in the area will cease starting at 10:30 a.m. until the ceremony is over at 11:45 a.m.
Motorists can expect delays, and should plan alternate routes of travel whenever possible.
