Boise Avenue, Capitol Boulevard to Joyce Street (2011)

General Description:

Construction on the Boise Avenue, Capitol Boulevard to Joyce Street project started in early September 2011 and finished in December 2011.

At the January 26, 2011 commission meeting the ACHD Commissioners chose to remove on-street parking on the north between Martha and Chrisway so a bike lane can be added on the north side of Boise Ave.

Project Description

  • Construct curb, gutter, sidewalk and bike lanes on the northeast side of Boise Avenue between Capitol and Joyce where it currently doesn't exist.
  • Remove on-street parking on the north between Martha and Chrisway so a bike lane can be added on north side of Boise Ave.

Project purpose

  • Increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists using Boise Avenue
  • Improve neighborhood connectivity
  • This project, along with one other potential sidewalk project further east, would provide for continuous sidewalk connectivity on Boise Avenue, from Capitol Boulevard to Eckert Road

Background

This project originated from the Southeast Boise Neighborhood Association. They submitted a Community Programs application to ACHD in 2009. The City of Boise has approved a Neighborhood Reinvestment grant for $17,500.

What's next?

The Boise Avenue project is currently in the design phase. Once public comments have been reviewed and considered ACHD will determine whether to move forward with the project. If  the project is approved ACHD will finish design and anticipates that construction would be in 2011.
