August 2020 Update:

Eagle and Amity Roundabout Expansion to be Included with Eagle Road Widening Project

Starting in November the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will begin construction on the Eagle, Amity to Victory Project. The roadway project includes:

  • Widening Eagle between Amity and Victory to two lanes in each direction, with a center turn lane.
  • A separated 10-foot multi-use pathway for pedestrian and bicyclists.
  • A signalized pedestrian crossing at the canal path area.
  • A roundabout at the Eagle and Zaldia intersection.

The project now includes widening the existing roundabout at Eagle and Amity:

  • A multi-lane roundabout at the Eagle and Amity intersection with two lanes approaching the roundabout and two lanes going thru the roundabout. The southbound leg will include a dedicated right-turn lane.
  • A separated 10-foot multi-use pathway for pedestrians and bicyclists.
  • Bike ramps at the entrance to the roundabout.
  • Crosswalks at each leg of the intersection with two-stage pedestrian crossings.
  • A truck apron for larger vehicles to use if necessary.
  • Roundabout Design | How do dual-lane roundabout work? Check out this video from our neighbors to the north in Canada.

Why was the Eagle and Amity intersection added to the Eagle, Amity to Victory widening project?

The expanded roundabout was originally intended to be built with new development at the northwest corner of the Eagle and Amity intersection before the roadway was widened. As a result, the roadway widening was designed to accommodate the larger roundabout. However, the new development was delayed and ACHD had to decide either to 1) delay the roadway widening construction project until the roundabout was widened or 2) keep it on schedule and design and construct the larger roundabout as part of the roadway project. ACHD chose to keep the roadway construction on schedule and added the roundabout design to the project on an accelerated time line. This meant that the roadway construction could stay on schedule for November 2020.

As the November construction time frame nears, please watch your mailbox for more specifics on what neighbors and commuters can expect during the road and intersection widening project.
