The Original Town Site, bounded by Veterans Memorial Parkway and Main Street (east-west) and the Boise River and the Bench (north-south), is changing. The City’s newly adopted Comprehensive Plan has a vision for the Original Town Site as a mixed-use district with more opportunities for diversified housing and commercial development. New projects have occurred along the river and additional re-development and in-fill is expected. The City has adopted a new live-work-create zoning overlay designation to encourage this type of mixed use.
With these changes occurring, the City and ACHD have entered into an agreement to prepare a master street plan for the entire area and concept level street designs for Adams and 36th streets. Once completed, the plan will help guide Garden City and ACHD with future developments, roadway, streetscape and utility improvements.
The Master Street Plan will help guide the design for Adams Street , 40th Street to 37th Street; 36th Street, from the Waterfront Development to Chinden Boulevard; and the future extension of Adams Street to 36th Street and the Waterfront District. The primary goal will be to develop the roadway elements, including lane widths, sidewalks, and other features for these two streets. The Master Plan will also examine the functions of the entire street system in relationship to the proposed land uses, and possible street extensions to improve connectivity.
