Construction Update as of 5/31/18: This project is substantially complete as of 5/02/18.
Lane closures to the existing right turn lanes will remain in place until the work on the signalized right turn lanes is complete. Some additional lane closures may be needed to accommodate construction activities.
Starting the end of February/early March construction will begin in the Cole and Overland intersection area for safety improvements. Electrical work began in February and all construction is anticipated to be complete in May 2018.
Traffic and Construction Impacts
Most of the work is anticipated to be done at night and is expected to occur between 8 p.m.-6 a.m. During the night work there will likely be temporary closures to the existing right turn lanes at the Cole and Overland intersection, as well as closures at the intersection. There may also be the following impacts: lane restrictions, general construction noise, dust, equipment back up alarms and ground vibration.
Please note that the contractor will coordinate with businesses and property owners to maintain access during construction.
Work will also include constructing medians as part of the Cole Road, Spectrum to Century Way Median Project.
General Description:
The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is replacing the free running right-turns at the Cole and Overland intersection with signalized right turns. Why? The intersection has had a well-above-average number of crashes, nearly half occurring at the free running right-turns. Signalizing the right turns, along with upgrading the intersection lighting and other improvements, will help increase safety and decrease crashes.
