Heron Street, 13th to 9th

Construction update as of 8/31/18:  This project reached substantial completion on July 23rd.

Heron Street Construction | June thru end of July 2018

 This summer Heron Street between 13th and 9th streets will be rebuilt to include detached sidewalk adjacent to Camel's Back Park and bulb-outs. The project will also include a new crosswalk at 10th Street, as well as painted shared lane markings to remind users that bikes and cars share the street.

Traffic & Construction Impacts

  • Heron will be closed to thru traffic. However, access to Camel's Back Park and homes will be maintained.
  • On-street parking will be temporarily impacted when necessary.
  • The contractor will coordinate with property owners to maintain access during construction.
  • Equipment back up alarms and ground vibration.
  • General construction noise and dust.
  • Crews typically work weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., however they may work on weekends if necessary.

General Description:

The Ada County Highway District, working with the Boise City Parks and Recreation Department, is designing improvements for Heron Street, between 13th and 9th streets in front of Camel's Back Park.


  • Rebuild the roadway.
  • Add a detached pathway on the north side of the street.
  • Install bulb-outs.
  • Add a new crosswalk on Heron at 10th Street.
  • Paint sharrow markings to create awareness that bikes and cars share the roadway.
  • Allow on-street parking on both sides of the street.
  • Construction is anticipated in summer/fall 2018.

Please note that every effort was made to impact as few trees as possible.

Project Purpose

  • Provide a safe pathway for the neighborhood and Camel's Back Park users.
  • Increase pedestrian connectivity.
