Update as of 2/12/21:
Shoshone Street Bikeway Update
Unfortunately, we've learned that a couple of the intersections that were reconstructed with the Shoshone Street Bikeway Project are not meeting ACHD standards. Please rest assured that ACHD is working to fix the issues so the intersections function safely for all users.
Shoshone Street and Overland Road
Shoshone Street and Rose Hill
While elements of a project may technically meet engineering standards, in practicality, they may not always be the best solution for a particular location. ACHD is working to ensure upcoming improvements to both intersections are the safest and most practical solutions moving forward. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Construction update as of 1/29/21: This project is substantially complete. Additional pavement markings will placed this spring. There is separate project being evaluated for a redesign at the intersection of Overland and Shoshone.
Pavement markings, the second coat, are being placed.
Nez Perce is complete, though landscape work continues. Concrete removal on Orchard Street is complete. On the south side of Rose Hill the deck sidewalk has been redesigned and the contractor work is ongoing.
The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will begin construction on the Shoshone Street Bikeway in July. Work is expected to be complete September 2020.
The bikeway design includes a combination of bike lanes, signalized pedestrian crossings, sharrows, and more. To make room for the bike lanes, on-street parking will be removed on the east side of Shoshone St. between Overland Rd. and Rose Hill St., but remain on the west side of the street.
During construction you can expect...

The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) has been working with the community to develop a bikeway design for Shoshone St., Canal St. to Crescent Rim, since last year. Based on public input we have developed a bikeway design that we are excited to share with you.
The bikeway design includes a combination of bike lanes, signalized pedestrian crossings, sharrows, and more! The current design eliminates on-street parking on the east side of Shoshone St. between Overland Rd. and Rose Hill St. for bike lane striping.

General Description
The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) is beginning the design of the Shoshone Street Bikeway. The goal of the project is to prepare a concept design for a bikeway that will be comfortable for people of a wide range of ages and abilities to bike on.
*Please note that the proposed bikeways include streets beyond Shoshone Street. Please check the proposed route maps to see which streets may be included in each bikeway.
What is a bikeway?
A bikeway is a route, way, or path that is specifically designed and/or designated for bicycle travel. A bikeway does not preclude vehicular travel, but enhances the roadway character and experience for cyclists.
Why Shoshone Street?
Shoshone Street was identified as a potential bikeway in the 2012 Boise Central Bench Neighborhood Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan. It's also included in the 2018 Roadways to Bikeways Bicycle Master Plan Update.
