Construction Update May 11, 2021: Suez is working on their services. There is ongoing electrical work. Work cannot continue until the Right of Entry permit is approved by the Railroad. 

Construction Update April 22, 2021: The temporary paving is being modified to accommodate heavier traffic. There are ongoing utility relocations. 

Phase 1 of construction began March 1st. During phase 1 the contractor will place temporary asphalt along the westbound travel lanes. The additional asphalt will provide space needed to shift traffic and allow the road to stay open during construction. Utility relocations also began this week and will continue throughout construction. There will be lane restrictions and flagging as part of this work. 

Phase 2: After the temporary asphalt has been placed there will a traffic swap and the contractor will begin work on the east side of the bridge and Gowen Road.

During Construction You can Expect:

  • Lane restrictions with flagging
  • General construction noise and dust
  • Equipment back-up alarms 

Construction expected to begin March 2021. A preconstruction conference is scheduled for February 18th.

General Description:
This winter ACHD will begin construction on the Gowen Road Bridge project. This project will replace the existing bridge with a new structure over the Union Pacific railroad tracks. Work also includes widening Gowen Road from Exchange Street to Eisenman Road to four lanes with new sidewalk and a buffered bike lane.
