Ustick and Black Cat Intersection

August 13, 2021 Update: Utility work complete. Signal pole bases and poles have been set. Concrete placements for curb, gutter and sidewalk are complete. Paving is complete. Striping is complete. Signals are activated as of August 11th. Substantially complete as of August 12th. 

August 6, 2021 Update: Utility work is ongoing. Signal pole bases and poles have been set. Concrete placements for curb, gutter and sidewalk are complete. Paving is complete. Striping is set to be complete by the end of the week. Signals are scheduled to be activated in the next week or two with Idaho Power. 

July 22, 2021 Update: Concrete placements for curb, gutter and sidewalk are ongoing. Paving on the four corners is nearly complete. 

July 6, 2021 Update: Utility work is ongoing. The 3rd phase of the operation is expected to start July 6th. The precast box is fabricated and expected to be set July 19th. Signal pose bases have been set. The extruded curb was set June 24th. The contractor set C&G placements on June 30th for phase 1. 

June 29, 2021 Update: Utility work is ongoing. Subgrade work on the shoulders is complete. Paving on the north and south sides of Black Cat are nearly complete. The precast box is in fabrication. Signal pole bases have been set. The extruded curb was set June 24th. The contractor has started prepping for sidewalk placements. 

June 21, 2021 Update: Utility work is ongoing. The contractor has completed the saw cutting and has paved the northeast and northwest sides of Black Cat. A precast box is in fabrication. Signal pole bases have been set.

June 11, 2021 Update: Demo work is ongoing. ACHD started phase 1 paving on June 4th. Electrical work has started on the southeast corner. 

May 27, 2021 Update: Preconstruction meeting is scheduled for May 20th. Notice to proceed in late May. TTC permit is under review. Pending permit approval, the contractor anticipates starting demo on May 27th. 

Construction to start late May:
The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will begin an interim improvement project at the Ustick and Black Cat intersection as early as late May to upgrade the existing stop sign controlled intersection with a traffic signal and left turn lanes. The project is expected to be complete by September 2021. 

The purpose of the interim improvements is to increase safety and improve traffic flow until Ustick Road and the intersection can be expanded more fully in the future. 

When complete, the intersection will feature:

  • A traffic signal and left turn lanes 
  • New pedestrian ramps on all four corners
  • New sidewalks on the southeast and northwest corners of the intersection 

Potential construction impacts include lane restrictions with flaggers, temporary closures, general construction noise, dust, and equipment back up alarms.
